Peter Burke (1937) studied at Oxford and taught at the University of Sussex, where he was Reader in Intellectual History, and at Cambridge, where he was Professor of Cultural History. He remains a Fellow of Emmanuel College. He has published 25 books and has been translated into 30 languages.
